St. George’s Day Scout Parade, Home Park

24 April 2017

Congratulations to all those who attended the St. George’s Day Parade at Plymouth Argyle’s stadium, Home Park. You were all smartly dressed and well behaved – and did 35th Plymouth proud.

The event began at 13:00 with 2 hours of ‘bases’, a scouting term for activities designed to be fun yet challenging. For our base we took one of the sideshows from the up-coming May Fair (20 May, at the Scout Hut) and it proved very popular. There was still a small queue as we were told to clear away ready for the parade.

The parade began at 15:00. The Plymouth District scout groups lined up in order, each section led by a flag bearer. The entire cohort then paraded out of the ground, returning for a short ceremony supported by visiting dignitaries.

A key element of the Scouts’ St. George’s Day Parade is the re-making of promises. Each section re-made their promise en-masse, recognising the importance of the values for which Scouting stands.

Allthose who attended will receive credit towards their World Faiths activity badge.
