Scout Raft-building, Lopwell Dam

25 September 2017

On Friday, 5 Scouts and one guest visited Lopwell Dam in order to construct and paddle their own rafts. Despite the weather, two rafts were built and both survived several crossings of the river. The only ones who got wete were those who decided to jump in afterwards.

Each raft was constructed from 6 bits of timber. Square lashings were used to create a rectangle, and then two additional pieces were lashed on parallel to the longer side to make a space for the barrels. These were then barrel-hitched into place.

Our thanks to Sue and Mark Rogers for another great Scouting event. With our trips to Saltash Passage this year we have really been able to boost our programme. We look forward to more trips out next year.
